Australia – March 1999

Hello again, long time ago since I wrote last time, and a lot have happened.. Martin has arrived and we have bought a bunch of things, like a corner sofa, fridge with a little freezer on top, Coca-Cola, Nutella, and some other crap food…

We bought the schoolbooks and that ended at AU $440 (2200 SEK). We have only four subjects and I thought it was like a robbery this price for four books. I have also developed my film from when I was on Billabong Sanctuary and there are a lot of cool pictures..

We have started school and our teachers are good, in many ways, one of our Zoology teachers really have a high sex-appeal, she does not look like an model or anything like that she is really normal, but she glows in some mysterious way.

Our Earth Sci. Teacher Prof. Bob Henderson is really enthusiastic about his job so he really is funny to listen to… And the chemistry is good too but they who works within the chemistry faculty seems little dumb, in the meaning that they take 2 years to tell you which box you are supposed to hand in your report book. They also think or have that impression that we don’t know shit, about anything, so we are not allowed to use burners in the lab. As every friend of mine knows, that we use burners in chemistry class in Sweden in the 7th grade in secondary school, that’s 7 years ago, but now we are not allowed to use them at Uni. in Australia…

Quite funny…

The Botany teacher doesn’t talk very clear so it’s very hard to hear what she is talking about.

Last night we (Me, Martin, Kate and Sara) were out having dinner, we were supposed to go to a restaurant called Gecko’s, but when we got there its was closed and had been for couple weeks. On the way back we found a restaurant who looked really good (Michael’s Cafe and Bar), so stopped there and I ordered a New York beef Sirloin, for AU $17.90 (89.50 SEK) and a Belgian beer called Stella Artois (famous in Sweden) they cost AU$4.50 a piece (22.50 SEK). The Sirloin was about 8 cm long and 6 cm wide and you got three small potatoes and some salad.

You maybe think it’s expensive… It costs to be on the top… And excuse me, mom and dad, but this beef was the most extraordinary that ever tasted…

Ooh my… And when you got it served it looked very small but you became very full. After we paid the food and drinks for almost 100 dollars we moved on to take the temperature on Townsville’s Nightlife.

We went to the Exchange which is a bar, pub, nightclub, restaurant.. like all in one.

We split up cause they were going to the ladies room and we went up and grabbed some beer… (VB=Victoria Bitter).

We sat down and waited for the girls to show up but they didn’t… After an hour or so, Martin wanted to go home and so he did, but I stayed because I was in a good mode.

I walked between The Exchange and The Mad Cow, which is also a nightclub.

I was in bed at 3.30am and woke up at around 10.30 am and had some breakfast and then Martin rised and shined and we decided to hit the beach so we packed our towels and some bottles of water and sunblock, and we on our way…

We took the bus to the City (15 min) and a cab from there to the Strand. The most part of the beach is under construction but they have a little beach in the north part of town who is functional so that’s where we were going.

Finally there we jumped strait into the water and realized that the water was warm, really warm, like in the first couple of meters in Sweden were all the children has pied and warmed the water up, that warm..

We had our dip for 20 minutes and then we thought we should get a tan, while we were there.

We had all ready put some sunblock on at home so we just through our selves onto our towels and started to fry our bodies, I noticed that nobody but we where out in the sun, everybody else were up in the shadow.

I found out when I got home why they were in the shadow…

And the reason has probably something to do with that Townsville has the HIGHEST QUOTE OF SKIN CANCER IN THE WORLD!!

With other words we got burned…

I used 30+ on the areas were I already was tanned and SPF 8 on the rest of the body… that was not enough…

The areas with SPF 30+ had the same colour as before but the rest had the colour of a Cancer!!!

As I said before It cost, to be on the top….

Well well see you guys later…

By the way if you would like my Snail mail address just send an Email and I will send it over to you…

Over and out, from Casa Del Suede’s, Stefan

Today it my birthday and it started off very good the night before, the 13th because then we were at a move-in party at one of the other Swedish students. It was really fun.

Me and Martin had bought Tuborg beer so we bragged about that all night, that we had beer from home…

There were approximately 20 persons there but the more the clock ticked the fewer we became… …we were the last to leave and we took a taxi home at around 2-3am

I was waked up by Martin at 7.30 or something, because my parents was on the phone, but they couldn´t know that we almost went to bed…

After 10 minutes talk we hanged up and I went to bed again, and was waked again by Martin this time with a terrible song, like the Swedish song “Ja´må han leva”.

He gave me a present wrapped in a newspaper and when I opened it I saw that it was Savage Gardens CD…
