Australia – May & June 2000

The reports from home about absolutely wonderful weather make me happy; I do not have so much of a difference in weather down here…

Among some of the new updates on the site are the reports and essay page, where you can read some scientific reports and essays about different topics. There is especially two I want to address and they are the Overpopulation essay and the Tourism and Environment essay.

Yesterday was an interesting day, with many “exiting” things happening, firstly Jody had a combined Birthday party – Diveclub party, at Molly Molone’s, so I had to go and at least say hello to everyone, and had two beers, and after chatting with different people for a while I decided to leave and go home.

After being told that you could have 2 drinks in the first hour and then one per hour after that, I felt that I was well within the limits of being driving intoxicated. When I came halfway I decided to drop in at McDonalds for an ice cream and a soda. When I got in I saw one of my friends from Uni, Caine sitting there with a friend of his. I joined them to finish my ice cream and then I was on my way again and I came almost all the way home, when I saw that I just past a POLICE CAR. I felt immediately guilty of everything you could think of, and of cause he followed me, and PULLED ME OVER…

I just opened me glove box and took out my international drivers license, my normal license and my passport, and got out of the car to talk to the officer.

He said this was just a routine vehicle inspection; he had a alco-meter with him and asked me if I had had something to drink tonight.

I said: -I’ve had two beers.

Officer: -That’s it?

I: -yeah,…

Officer: -How long ago was it since you finished your last one?

After looking at my watch I said: -About 40-minutes ago…

Officer: -Ohh, so that’s long time ago then…, Are you familiar with these? And was indicating on the alco-meter.

I: -yep…

So I had blow and after two tries he went to his car and when he got back he said that it was alright, he then asked me to put on the lights and come with him behind my car, so I did and the taillights did not work!!!

The police officer told me that, that was 60$ fine on the spot!! But then he asked where I lived and I told him that I just lived up the road in Douglas and he said to take me car straight home and to stay home. Also to get it fixed tomorrow…

I was lucky to get away with it!

On Sunday the 14 th am I going out on the S/S Yongala again, just for the day. I haven’t been diving for 25 weeks, that is six months and one week!! My dive gear is really dusty, there should be a law against something like that 🙂

You can read about it under Hobbies / Diving.

Till next time,

When looking back to the past month it can be summarized in one word; Study!

My third semester finished and the exams as well…

Can’t really say that anything exiting happened, over the natural, I haven’t hit any kangaroos with my car even though it was close one time…

As you can see of the date above, I am writing this in July…
